Awesome Arts Residencies 2019:
We visited three Martu Communities: Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji:
Our first trip was to Parnngurr a community in the East Pilbarra 370 Km from Newman.
Our projects with the primary school involved the creation of a small puppet theatre and the kids making puppets from polystyrene shapes and coloured paper:
The Parnngurr kids were very creative they also made sock puppets and created some exceptional paintings.
The high school made helmets and masks.
Following our visit to Parnngurr we returned to Punmu and Kunawarritji:
We provided Similar projects at both communities, the puppet theatres were very popular as as was the dynamic painting project:
The kids enjoyed telling the go for 2&5 story with veggie masks:

South Newman Primary
Another great Awesome Ars residency in Newman a small mining town in the Pilbara region of WA.
We worked with two classes at South Newman Primary making hand puppets from pladtic plant pots, and learning film making skills from Kero, my talented husband.

The opportunies to work with kids in remote communities has been inspiring and educational and given us the opportunity to visit places we would not totherwise have seen.
Each school has offered a different set of challenges and contributed to our skills development. We now have a greater understanding of some of the challenges faced by the Aboriginal population of Western Australia, and of the great knowledge and understanding the have of the land we live on.
Our latest residencvy took us to the Martu communities of Punmu and Kunawarridji in the Great Sandy and Gibson Deserts.
Our theme was 'Different Voices' which was particularly relevant in these communities where English is a second or third language. The kids made puppets, masks and helmets to tell their stories. They produced many wonderful artworks full of imagination and colour.

2018 Creating Wall Art at Home!
A Wall at the Front of Our House in Need of a Bit of Colour!
Having worked on numerous projects over the past three years using marine plywood boards, I had lots of off-cuts left over. Time to use it all up and decorate that wall!!
I call this piece 'The Spirit Tree'! I love trees they are the lungs of our planet Earth and provide beauty and shade in our garden.
The work is built up from layers of plywood undercoated then painted with acrylics and sealed with marine varnish.
